1 Kings 17:5-24_
[Group discussion] Describe a time when you were in need and tell how God provided for you in that situation.

[Read 1 Kings 17:5-7]
Why did God supply Elijah with food twice a day?
Why not just stock a cave with a year’s worth of food?
Do you think Elijah was encouraged or discouraged as he watched the brook dry up?
Why?
What “drying brook” have you experienced?
How did God demonstrate His presence and care as you moved through that time?
Next God sent Elijah into the enemy’s territory – right into the region Sidon, where Jezebel’s father was king!...
[Read 1 Kings 17:8-24]
Why would it have been difficult for Elijah to ask this woman for food?
The word kerith means “to cut away”; zaraphath comes from the word for “furnace”.
What attitudes or prejudices was God “cutting” or “burning” from Elijah’s life?
How did the bowl of flour and the jar of oil refine Elijah’s attitude toward God?
Compare the woman’s response to her son’s death with Elijah’s response.
Which response is most like yours in a desperate situation?
Up until this point, God had never raised a dead person back to life.
What do you think that Elijah expected God to do?
How did the miracle change the woman’s perception of Elijah?
How did it change her perception of Elijah’s God?
[Activity] Jesus raised several people back to life, including a widow’s only son.
Read Luke 7:11-17.
What was the response of the people to Jesus’ miracle?
What response does the miracle produce in you?
